It is hard to sum up in a few sentences!

Henry was very reactive and was so terrified of other dogs that he would bite any dog that approached him.  I tried two different trainers, one used a method of being dominant over him, the other used a method of squirting water into his face if he looked at a dog, and then hopefully when he looked at me to expect water I would reward him with a treat for looking at me.  But he was too scared to eat and I did not like punishing him with water.  Both these training methods made him more reactive if anything and we stopped taking Henry for walks.   After a visit to the vet when another dog came into the waiting room he was so frightened that he attacked my other dog (his mother).   I decided I had to find a behavioural therapist because he was obviously in a lot of distress.  The receptionist recommended Active Paws.

I found the method of training at Active Paws to be very kind and positive.  At first Henry found it difficult to enter the training area with a small stuffed toy dog, but after a few weeks he had progressed onto a large stuffed dog.  The training is always gentle and allowed him to leave the situation rather than be forced to face it.  Together we learned how to cope with situations that feel unpleasant to Henry.   We went out into a village setting with lots of distractions and we coped with everything that we came across.  Ainsley thought we should try the Life Skills Basics course with Jennie, and I have to admit I was doubtful.  She said that it would be fine if we just sat in the corner for the whole course and left the room when Henry found it too much.  We did have a few exits in the first two lessons, but after than he was able to do all the tasks with other dogs in the room which was a real surprise.  He came on in leaps and bounds and he had so much fun and passed the course.   I'm hoping to progress with Henry and do some more classes because he enjoys it so much.

Hi Ainsley & Jennie,

Harley is doing brilliantly.  We thought we would drop you a note to give you a quick update.

I have just achieved an important milestone... taking him out for a run, without him barking once or acting fearfully with other dogs. This is the second time in a row he has achieved this so I don’t even put it down to chance.  We encountered many other dogs, even a couple that wanted to play.   To be fair we were running (part on and off the lead) so he is quite focused on staying near me but it is undoubted progress.  Clever boy.

He is still reactionary in busy circumstances but still improving. Not quite ready to come to the pub with us on a busy night, but I feel we are making progress towards this goal.

Things are going very well with Sash. She has settled in really well and is an incredibly loving and affectionate dog. We’re still working on all the basics with her and have had a few lovely walks with her off the lead. She’s still not particularly happy around other dogs but she is so brilliant with people and everyone who has met her loves her.

Thank you again for all the input you and your wonderful team gave us in helping her adjust to life with us.

Ainsley has been fantastic for my labrador (Rosie) and I. Rosie is a working gundog but home life had let some of her basic obedience slip and the traditional methods used in her puppy years didn't seem to work. After a couple of sessions with Ainsley, Rosie started wanting to work for me again and we have made tremendous progress in the last year. This wouldn't have been possible without Ainsley and her superb knowledge. We have recommended Active Paws to a number of friends and they carry our strongest endorsement. Thank you all for your continued help!

My dogs love their courses at Active Paws and it's all credit to Ainsley that Lilly the insecure Leonberger is a functioning member of the dog world.

The Active Paws Team are fab! Such a great
facility and so well set up. When my cocker spaniel had just one puppy and pretty much rejected it I was very worried, but the one-to-one support and puppy classes made a huge difference; giving me the confidence, insight and skills to help make both dogs happy.

I know they are on the end of the phone if I ever have any questions and am sure we will be continuing classes with them as long as we can.

On behalf of all the Stringers thank you so much for a fantastic puppy training course. We all loved it and it has been a very special part of our first 7 weeks with Martha.

It was great to come as a family and it has been really bonding! We have all got something out of it and I think it has really helped with a consistent approach at home. Your approach is fantastic and we have picked up so many brilliant tips and feel super proud of Martha's response to our instructions! Stay, wait, sit, lie down are all going so well - and I found the whole "look" to establish eye contact really helpful with Martha.. she loves eye contact.

I met a friend the other day at a lovely pub and Martha lay down at my feet for about 2 hours!! Amazing!  She is still very excited when greeting people but we are using all your tips on that!

Looking forward to more courses with Active Paws. You are all such lovely warm people too!
Kind regards
Katie - and Rob, Ben and Emilia

Our rescue Labradoodle came with a number of problems which to start with we were not sure could be overcome.  However thanks to the input from Ainsley and her staff Max has become an almost different dog! He has gained confidence and trust and is a much happier and less anxious dog now. We've learned to see life from his perspective which has helped us all and he has become such a rewarding and lovely companion to share our lives with. Many thanks. Dee and Bob Burgess

A big thank you for all your help with our Lurcher, Rosie. We rescued Rosie a year ago when she was aged 9. From the outset, Rosie has always been very loving and great in every way apart from her great reluctance to walk, especially from our house. Her anxiety got so bad, last Summer she started to avoid going into the garden for her wee. In desperation, we called Ainsley. She worked with us and soon ascertained that Rosie had a fear of traffic. With a few changes in diet and habits and activities outside we now have a new dog. We can now get her to walk from the house with only 2 of us, a major achievement. She is also different in herself, more interactive and lively (or as lively as an old Lurcher will ever be!) We are continuing with the training Ainsley gave us and our aim now is to get her to walk with only one of us from the house. So many thanks Ainsley and I can certainly recommend Active Paws for help with dogs with anxiety issues.

I was at my wits' end with Simba, our 9 month old rescue GSD puppy, when I was put in touch with Ainsley. My family wanted nothing to do with him; my husband was distraught because our beautiful new home and its contents were being destroyed and our 13 years old son had had enough of being 'mouthed' (not his terminology!). Visitors were likely to have their toes, ankles, wrists and clothes bitten, albeit not in aggression, but that's no consolation and still hurts. I had tried everything and neither my previous experience of owning 3 GSDs nor other trainers were able to achieve any improvement. We started at Active Paws with Maria doing TD Rally Level 1 and Follow Your Nose; the atmosphere was relaxed and, with tremendous help and support from Jennie during the sessions, Simba did really well. Ainsley came to the house a couple of times and the effects of her advice were immediate. We then had a number of one-to-one sessions at Active Paws going from strength to strength. Our first attempt at Lifeskills Basics was too much for Simba to cope with but the second a triumph and we are now looking forward to continuing scent work and obedience. I can't pretend that Simba is now perfect but he has come such a very long way; my husband shows him off with pride and our son can even be caught having a game or lying on the floor having a cuddle. We also receive numerous compliments from the dog-walking fraternity. My family and I really can't thank Ainsley and her team enough.

I am a canine physio and have worked with a young energetic dog for a while. This dog has recently had some training with her owners from Ainsley and has quickly learnt how to concentrate, focus and problem solve making her physio exercise therapy sessions much more effective. She is more calm and so using her body better therefore achieving more in physio. Thank you Ainsley

After 6 weeks and 3 days of gentle (but firm) guidance, support and advice from Ainsley and Jennie we hit the jackpot. Carla was on the village rec NOT ATTACHED to me or a lead or a long line; running free with other dogs and people both close and in the distance. From being a dog for whom everything was a major threat prompting flight she has become mildly interested or not bothered at all. Can't thank them enough - I really didn't think we'd ever reach that goal till the other side of Christmas 2017!! We are now ready to go on to TDRally and a whole host of other opportunities for dogs and their handlers which Active Paws runs. WHOOOOPEEEE!!

The Myotherapy treatment definitely seems to be working! Bertie is a lot better and his back legs are much less stiff. I have noticed an improvement in his gait, he is more keen to jump up into the car and up on things. He's holding his tail up alot more and is not shaking his back leg out in the morning before going for a walk. It has definitely done the trick!

I have a mixed breed (German Shepherd X Beagle) rescue dog called Guzzi, which I have now had for 4 years.  In this time I have never succeeded to help Guzzi overcome his numerous behaviour issues until now, and that's all thanks to Ainsley and the team at Active Paws.  I arranged for Ainsley to come for home visit to meet Guzzi and the family and to see first hand the problems we were experiencing.  On a normal day he would growl at food, growl at people if they go near his toys and  lunge and bark excessivley at other dogs.........walking could be very traumatic!  Apart from this he is a loving dog as long as there are no toys, food or other dogs around!  From day one Ainsley suggested small changes to the way we do things and overnight things started to improve. Three months on and some 1:1 training sessions at Active Paws and Guzzi's behaviour has significantly improved.  The progress has been made by understanding why Guzzi behaves the way he does and helping him to cope with situations rather than just trying to correct his bad behaviour.  With this new understanding I am far more confident on how to help Guzzi and life in our house and walks are far less stressful.  The training is ongoing and I'm not saying he's now perfect, but with the help of Ainsley and her team I know that we will continue to help Guzzi and maybe our dream of getting another dog to join our family is getting a little closer.

I just wanted to say how much Monty and I enjoyed Fit for Life.
It was a very informative course and taught well with good instructions and lot's of guidance.
I have learnt so much about how a dog moves and balances, I feel the benefits from this course will carry on with Monty in his every day life as we can do all the exercises whenever we want, wherever we want to.
I shall continue to practice with him as it helps his whole body to work together and he does seem to love it.
Many Thanks

Inky ( our 12 year old Patterdale  terrier ) and I attended the  Active Paws Fit for  Life course as he had a back injury which caused his hind legs to tremble.
The course was 8 weeks long and Ainsley sent us home each week with exercises to practice, which we did.  The change in his demeanour was amazing and his back and  hind legs were much stronger.  After 3 weeks  I took him back to the physio where he'd been having treatment,  she was surprised  with the speed of  his progress.
He is a much happier boy now and loves the exercises,  so much so that we've signed up for the next course.
I can really recommend this course and Ainsley to everyone.

Am absolutely amazed - the venue, the equipment, the empathy shown to dogs and their humans - outstanding. Hoot and I are both (unsurprisingly!) looking forward to getting back from holiday next week so we can get on with Rally. Well done, can't think of enough superlatives so I'll stop now.

Benji used to be a real handful - not listening to commands, pulling on the lead and play biting to name a few! But Ainsley has given us a lot of tools and tips to help manage his behaviour and we have seen a huge improvement and in only a couple of months! Couldn't recommend this more. In fact, we travel an hour and a half to get to Active Paws as there is literally nothing like this nearby.

Maja and I had a great couple of taster sessions at Active Paws Fitness and Activity Centre.
It is held in a small building so classes are small, you don't have to worry about adverse weather or loud noises, bangs, fireworks etc. as some of you well know absolutely petrify Maja.
Comfortable seats, lovely area, superb equipment and very nice and soft Vetbeds for the dogs to lie on. Maja was especially impressed and comfortable!
COAPE qualified so you can be sure that they have a deep understanding of dogs, and that their practices, information and all that they do is up to date, for the dogs benefit and won't cause them any harm or discomfort.
We enjoyed the TD Rally especially and look forward to using their gym equipment!
Highly recommended.
